New Mix – Sounds Of Forever

Here’s my newest mix featuring more house music. I wanted this mix to feature a lot more vocals than my last, with all the songs lyrics revolving around a similar theme. Some standout tracks include the Kaskade songs which are older but still sound great, more Laidback Luke who has been my favorite DJ of the year and my bootleg mashup of “Satisfaction”.

Artwork by: Anthony Nguyen (an old buddy of mine from college. Thanks for letting me use the artwork!)

Track Listing:

1. Kaskade – All You (Angger Dimas Mix)
2. Temper Trap – Sweet Disposition (Axwell & Dirty South Remix)
3. Sidney Samson – Fill U Up
4. Laidback Luke – Till Tonight
5. Meck & Dino – Feels Like a Prayer (Bart Claessen Remix)
6. Kaskade – Sorry (Dirty South Remix)
7. Wolfgang Gartner – Wolfgang’s 5th Symphony
8. Wolfgang Gartner – Undertaker
9. MSTRKRFT ft. John Legend – Heartbreaker (Laidback Luke Remix)
10. Benny Benassi vs SHM, Laidback Luke – Leave the Satisfaction Behind (DJ Esquire Bootleg/Mashup)

In case anyone was interested, I’ll also release my bootleg “Leave the Satisfaction Behind” as a single.

1. Deadmau5 – Some Chords

3. The Golden Boys – Out to the Nation

New Mashup – Katy Perry vs The Beach Boys California Girls (DJ Esquire Mashup)

Just in time for summer, my new mashup of a classic with a soon-to-be classic. Took Katy Perry’s new song “California Gurls” and put it with The Beach Boys classic “California Girls”. The Beach Boys instrumental is different from the original Beach Boys studio version. Mixed the verses and choruses together so that it sounds like a duet. Had to do it to represent the West Coast!!! Roll the windows down and turn the volume up.

Created both digitally and on turntables. Download it if you dig it. Let me know what you guys think.

Album Review: Drake – Thank Me Later

This album comes out on June 15th, but I couldn’t resist taking a listen to the leak that came out earlier last week. Drake burst on the hip-hop scene last year and since has been hyped up as the next great thing in the genre. This album has been long anticipated with large expectations.

Overall, this album doesn’t disappoint. Drake’s style speaks for itself, he’s smooth, he can sing, he can rap, and his lyrics are tight. However, he is no Jay-Z, Kanye West, or TI. His album lacks the maturity of the aforementioned class of rappers and the catchiness to make it unresistable. Don’t get me wrong, this is a very solid debut album that puts Drake on the map as one of the leaders of the next generation of rap and hip-hop. But I am not ready to say he is in the elite yet.

His first two singles, “Over” and “Find Your Love” are two of the better tracks off the album. The record’s opener “Fireworks” featuring Alicia Keys works well, with a duet chorus between the two. The heart of the album though, are three “party” songs in the middle, “Show Me A Good Time”, “Up All Night”, and “Fancy” (my favorite track off the album right now). His track “Light Up” with Jay-Z is a good one, but it’s this type of track that shows the comparison between the two rappers, as Jay-Z’s verse outshines Drake.

This album will please Drake fans and hip-hop fans alike, but don’t expect another “Reasonable Doubt”, “Illmatic”, or “Ready to Die”. Rating: 4/5
